I have never really looked into crypto before as far as buying any. I have looked into bitchain to see what it was / how it worked. Nothing really more than that as I always thought crypto was a nothing burger. That and I was never really thinking about the future. So, I decided to look into a few different types of coins and ended up buying a few (low low investment, more for a test). Spoiler: I have made over 3 times what I have invested into the system already.

Week 1

I started out with Dogecoin (5 dollars worth) and got free Tesla stock (which has done nothing but positive stuff since). After the increase in value in both the stocks and coins, I ventured out and bought 5 more different cryptos: Dogecoin, XLM, XRP, Shiba, Bitcoin and Pepe. There were a few given for free: Avalance, Bitcoin, and 2 others that ended up to be junk so I instantly converted them to: HBAR and Tezos. I have done research on all the ones I bought, not dumping more than a few bucks per crypto. Bitcoin of course is up and has been going up every since purchase. XLM and XRP are both doing really well so far. Shiba and Pepe has done nothing but lose value since obtaining them sadly. Dogecoin had a nice increase to start but has kind of leveled out a bit. HBAR and Tezos I have only had for a day at this point and both of them are doing ok.. nothing spectacular, nothing horrible. This would be my pretty basic findings thus far: (based on a week and a half mind you)

There are a lot of crypto sites out there that are just full of bologna. Some are pushing crappy coins and are obviously being paid to push this bologna. I have been checking out several different sites before seriously considering any crypto (as should you!). I kind of knew it was going to be a lot of scams and bologna sites, just wasn’t ready for the amount and how professional some of them are. With all of that in mind, I only joined 2 crypto markets or companies or whatever the crap you want to call them: Robinhood, which also does stocks and the like, and Coinbase. Both have ups and downs just like you would imagine. Robinhood is a lot cheaper overall to add money and purchase crypto. Not a lot of fees and everything is shown before you continue. They will also match your first deposit up to.. (at my time of joining 5 bucks) worth of stock. I jumped on Tesla and it has done nothing but increase in value. Coinbase has a much bigger selection of crypto to buy but are much more costly. It is a .99 fee to deposit money plus a percentage when you buy the crypto. Currently Robinhood only has 19 different crypto currencies (this has since changed) to purchase. Coinbase has quite a bit more and carry some of the new coins and altcoins /memecoins. They also will (at the time I joined) give you 50 bucks worth of Bitcoin free when you make your first deposit.

Takeaways:

Robinhood – Cheaper, easier to use. Good statistics. Reliable company. Expanding crypto selection. Keep stocks and crypto together. No down times.

Coinbase – More costly, bulkier app. Carries a bigger selection of crypto /coins. Ease of converting crypto to another crypto. Has had some slow/down times.

Kraken – Has greatly improved recently. A lot of fees that you need to look out for when adding money or selling anything. Kraken does have a wide range of crypto to choose from unlike Robinhood. You can also invest in normal stocks now.

Week 2

So its been a little over 2 weeks since I started invested into crypto. There has been a lot of volatilty in the market as expected. Values dropping over 30% and then leveling back out to about where they were to start. There are a few positions that are doing pretty well even during the drop off (XRP, XLM, Avalanche and a couple others.. I have noticed that meme coins are very volatile and can go up and down swiftly (mostly down). The exception so far being Dogecoin. Since purchase, it has been up in value almost doubling what I invested. Doge too however, will go up and down like the other meme coins just appears to be much more stable. I am aware that 2 weeks doesn’t mean a lot in this world, just jotting down little notes to help later.

I have looked into other markets to see what else is out there.. and let me tell you, there are tons. I am steering clear, as should you, of pretty much all of them. Do your research before joining any of them. There are a ton of scams out there that you can easily fall prey to. I listed the 3 sites I am using currently: Robinhood, Coinbase and Kraken. All have been stellar in their own ways. A lot of markets are banned in the United States or within certain states (probably for good reason) and that is pretty telling.

This was my experience back in 2024 when I first purchased some cryptocurrency.
